💬 Certificate FAQs: Get Credit for What You Learn

Everything you need to know about receiving continuing education credits for your Ohm Gurus seminars.

How do I earn certificates by attending live webinar based seminars?

For each live one hour webinar based seminar (synchronous learning), participants must attend at least 50 minutes and complete the 5-question live quiz to earn a 1-hour PDH/CPC/CEU certificate.

How do I earn certificates by completing on-demand seminar recordings?

For each one hour on-demand seminar (asynchronous distance learning), participants need to watch at least 50 minutes of the recording and achieve a score of 70% or higher on a 5-question end-of-activity learning assessment to earn a 1-hour PDH/CPC/CEU certificate.

How will I receive my certificate?

Certificates for each seminar are emailed to eligible attendees immediately following the live online seminar or upon completion of an on-demand seminar.

What is the difference between PDH, CPC, CEU, CPD, and CE continuing education certificates?

Almost every state engineering board requires continuing education for professional license renewal.

Some states use different acronyms to refer to this process:

  • Professional Development Hour (PDH)
  • Continuing Professional Competency (CPC)
  • Continuing Education Unit (CEU)
  • Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
  • Continuing Education (CE)

Regardless of the acronym that your state board uses, they all refer to continuing education requirements for professional engineering license renewal.

Does my state board require continuing education for renewing a professional engineering license?

Almost every single state does with the exception of a small few.

To check if your state board requires continuing education for professional engineering licensing renewal, head over to our state requirements space on the Ohm Gurus online community.

If you are in one of the few states that does not require continuing education, you are still welcome to join Ohm Gurus to learn new applicable engineering skills and to expand your professional network by getting to know the rest of our large community members of professional engineers including our guest speakers.

How many hours of continuing education do I need to renew my professional engineering license? What about ethics seminars?

While just about every state requires continuing education for professional engineering licensure renewal, each state is a little different.

Most states require engineers to complete between 15 to 30 Professional Development Hours (PDH) over one- or two-year periods.

Some states require a minimum amount of continuing education on ethics or state specific rules and laws.

The find out what your state requires, head over to our state requirements space on the Ohm Gurus online community.

What is the deadline for renewing an engineering license and completing the required continuing education hours?

Engineering license renewal deadlines vary by state. Typically, licenses are renewed either annually or biennially, with specific deadlines set by each state’s licensing board

Newly licensed engineers are generally required to begin fulfilling continuing education requirements starting from their first full renewal cycle. This means that after obtaining licensure, an engineer must complete the mandated CE hours before the next renewal deadline.

To learn more about your state's deadlines for continuing education, head over to our state requirements space on the Ohm Gurus online community.

Can I complete the same seminar on-demand after attending it live to earn two separate one-hour certificates?

You are welcome to re-watch any seminar recording on-demand, even if you attended it live.

However, only one certificate can be submitted to your state board for continuing education credit.

For example, you cannot submit both the live seminar certificate and the on-demand seminar certificate for the same seminar to claim two credits.

This ensures the seminar is counted as a single credit, regardless of how many times you complete it.

Will Ohm Gurus continuing education certificates be accepted by my engineering state board?

Yes.

Ohm Gurus is provided by Electrical PE Review, Inc., an approved provider of engineering continuing education in the states that requiring pre-approval such as New York (NYS Sponsor #279), Florida (FL License #880 CEP Approved), and New Jersey (NJ Approval Number 24GP00051800) for example.

Our seminars are designed in compliance with the Continuing Professional Competency (CPC) Guidelines set by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES®). These standards were developed to assist state engineering boards in defining rules and procedures for CPC credits essential for license renewal.

Ohm Gurus continuing education certificates are expected to meet and exceed the requirements for continuing education for professional engineering licensing renewal in all states.

Each of our one-hour seminars offers a clear, relevant learning objective, opportunities for learner-instructor engagement, content developed and delivered by professionally licensed engineers in their area of expertise, methods of verifying attendance, and activities to evaluate learning objective effectiveness.

Ohm Gurus seminars are focused on maintaining, improving, and expanding the skill set and knowledge relevant to the field of electrical power engineering and its methods of practice. However, each engineering state board has the final discretion to approve or deny any continuing educational activity at any time, and it is the responsibility of the professional engineer licensee to determine if an educational activity is acceptable to their state board as is the case with all engineering continuing education.
